The Police command in Zamfara state have confirmed the death of 15 villagers in the attack on communities on Thursday and Friday.
The police commissioner in the state, Kenneth Ebrimson, said the attack occurred in a community near the border with Kebbi.
He blamed some unidentified armed bandits who have been on a renewed killing spree across the state in recent weeks.
The bandits had on Friday attacked Kabaro and two other villages in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The bandits in their dozens rode on motorbikes to attack Kabaro, Danmani Hausawa and Danmani Dakarkari.
Some villagers however said 27 people were killed in the attacks which they blamed on a gang of cattle rustlers.
The police commissioner said he had dispatched the area commander to the area to calm the situation.
