The Nigerian Women National Basketball Team, D’Tigress have accused the Nigerian Babsketball Federation(NBBF) of siphoning $230,000 donated to players.
In a 4 minute long video, the members of the Nigerian national women basketball team said the NBBS has failed to release the dues to the players. The D’Tigress listed the following demands to be met by the NBBS or risk not having the D’Tigress team represent Nigerian at the upcoming FIBA Afrobasket Women’s Basketball Cup 2022.
The D’Tigress BBasketball Team’s Demands
- That all monies owed to players, officials and vendors are paid.
- Adequate travel to competitions and,
- A team manager for all functions is provided.
The Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) Denies Sharing $230,000 Meant For Players
In a press statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Ismaila Abubakar, the NBBS Denies sharing players dues. The Sports Ministry said the $230,000 owed to the basketball has not been paid because only 12 members of the D’Tigress team have provided their bank details to the ministry.
The Nigerian Women Basketball Team, won the last 3 FIBA Afrobasket Championships; 2017, 2019 and 2021. They are the number 1 women’s basketball team in African and 16th in the world.
