The National Basketball Association and the National Basketball Players Association say the NBA Africa Game 2018, the NBA’s third game in Africa, will be played in support of the Nelson Mandela Foundation, in honour of the centenary of the South African legend.
The game, which takes place following the 16th edition of Basketball Without Borders Africa, is scheduled for August 4 at the Sun Arena at Time Square in Pretoria, South Africa.
NBPA Executive Director Michele Roberts said they are committed to developing basketball on the continent.
The NBA Africa Game 2018 will once again feature a Team Africa versus Team World format. Team Africa will be composed of players born in Africa or with direct family ties to the continent, and Team World will be composed of players from the rest of the world.
Team Africa comprise Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers), Al-Farouq Aminu (Portland Trail Blazers), Bismack Biyombo (Orlando Magic), Cheick Diallo (New Orleans Pelicans), Evan Fournier (Orlando Magic), Serge Ibaka (Toronto Raptors), Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (76ers) and Pascal Siakam (Raptors).
Team World have DeMar DeRozan (Raptors), Harrison Barnes (Dallas Mavericks), Danilo Gallinari (LA Clippers), Rudy Gay (San Antonio Spurs), Khris Middleton (Milwaukee Bucks) and Hassan Whiteside (Miami Heat).
