Nigeria Lifts Twitter Ban After 7 Months

The Federal Government has lifted the Twitter ban 7 months after it was implemented.

Citizens gained access to the microblogging platform at midnight on the 13th of January, 2022.

Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), in a statement said that President Buhari had approved a lift on the Twitter ban.

The company would work with the federal government and the broader industry “to develop a Code of Conduct in line with global best practices, applicable in almost all developed countries,” the statement read.

Twitter Ban in Nigeria was effected on the 4th of June, 2021 after President Mohammadu Buhari’s tweet was deleted from the app. The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed says the ban was effected in the country’s best interests.
