One year later, the prime suspect in the infamous Zenith bank robbery which occurred last year, February 22 at about 3:00 p.m. in Owerri, the Imo State capital, has been arrested by men of the Special Anti-robbery squad of the Imo State.
Parading the suspect of the attack which led to the death of two policemen, the Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike said the suspect hails from Obazu Mbieri in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
The 29-year-old suspect, Chinonso Gift Onwuegbuchulam popularly called “Ogolo” was arrested a few days ago in his hideout at 7, Mgbuakara Eleparawan in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
The Police Commissioner said the suspect confessed to the crime and further admitted that out of the N2.8million stolen, he got a share of N400,000.
The suspect further confessed to have been in armed robbery business since 2012 and has participated in several robbery operations in Lagos, Port Harcourt and Owerri between 2012 and 2017.
The hoodlums shot sporadically within the bank premises and exchanged gunfire with the three police personnel posted on duty at the bank and took away the sum of N2.5million.
