The Police in Lagos has arrested one Elizabeth Ibezim, for allegedly abducting a two-year-old girl on Tuesday while her mother was busy selling her wares at the Yam Market in Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos.
The mother, on noticing that her daughter was missing, raised the alarm and people joined her to search for the little girl.
The abductor was about boarding a bus with the child at Ketu bus stop when she was reportedly intercepted by a mob that almost lynched her.
The PPRO, who confirmed the incident, said policemen rescued the woman and took her to the station.
He said, “The suspect, one Elizabeth Ibezim, allegedly took the child away without the consent of her mother. Luck, however, ran out on the suspect when she was spotted with the child by her mother, who was in a near state of hysteria.
“As the suspect was about to board a commercial vehicle at the bus stop, the desperate mum rushed to where the suspect was and struggled to collect the girl from the suspect, raising the alarm, which attracted a mob that nearly lynched the woman, but for the quick intervention of a police team stationed near the market place.
“The case is currently under investigation at the gender section of the Lagos State Police Command.”
Oti added that the Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi, had urged parents to be wary of their children’s movements to prevent incidence of abduction and rape.
