The former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo has emerged winner of the Anambra state governorship elections. The candidate of the All progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, amassed 112,229 votes in 19 local government areas of the state.
Mr Valentine Ozigbo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, came second with 53,807 votes, while the candidate of All Progressives Congress, APC, Andy Uba, placed third with 43285.
Anambra Records Low Voter Turnout
Out of 2,466,638 registered voters, only 253,388 voters (10.3%) were accredited for the election.
The supplementary election which held in Ihiala local government area on Tuesday was also won by Soludo who polled 8283 votes. Valentine Ozigbo polled 2485 votes while Senator Andy Uba of APC scored 343 votes in the local government.
The collation officer for Ihiala, Dr Jarma Anagbogu who announced the results from Ihiala LGA said there was no election in Orsumoghu and Lilu communities due to security challenges.
Anagbogu said: “In the process of the election, we received report that there was resistance in Orsumoghu and Lilu where INEC had deployed staff, but they could not enter the communities”.
