The Nigerian Army Gives Reasons For Chinwetalu Agu’s Arrest

The Nigerian Army has confirmed and given reasons for Chinwetalu Agu’s arrest. The veteran actor was arrested by soldiers at Upper Iweka, Onitcha, Anambra state earlier today. See the video capturing his arrest here.

A statement released by the Nigerian Army says Chinwetalu Agu was arrested while soliciting support for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and inciting members of the public to join the IPOB group. The Army started that because IPOB remains proscribed by Nigerian laws, Chinwetalu challenged the Nigerian constitution through his actions.

Chinwetalu Agu has demonstrated uncharitable disposition to negate peace and security in the region, hence he is taken into custody for preliminary investigation,” the statement read. “It is important once again to place on record that the allegation that he was brutalized is false and should be disregarded accordingly.
