Zainab Aliyu was arrested in Saudi Arabi in December, 2018 after hard drugs were found in her suitcase. Zainab who was a student at the time, was framed by drug peddler and was facing a death sentence as is the penalty for drug trafficking in Saudi Arabia. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigerians In Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) through a collaborative effort were able to prove her innocence, secure her release and safe return to Nigeria in April, 2019.
Today, Zainab Aliyu has become an NDLEA officer. Speaking on her decision to join the fight against drug trafficking, Zainab said, “what happened to me in 2018 changed my life forever and inspired me to become an NDLEA officer.”
